I
am very pleased to announce, that the little Powerboat Racing game that I
devised and played with as a young boy back in the sixties and featured on
Facebook a few months ago, with my plasticine model Powerboat game pieces, is
to become a reality and is to be offered for sale to those who would like one?
There will be a limited edition of Five hundred
games made and will retail at around fifty five pounds each plus P&P - The
whole game is kept within a cardboard tube - very nautical!
All proceeds from sales of the game, will be awarded
to The Steve Burnard Foundation, a Registered Charity, based in Bournemouth,
who help raise money, to purchace Sports Equipment for underpriviliged
children.
Michael Mantle a
former winning navigator of the event himself and who has won it twice, once in
'Kaama', a 36 foot Cigarette, showed me so much interest from the article, that
I was encouraged to create it all over again, over fifty years later, but this
time in full colour and will have eight micro coloured game pieces of previous
winners in cast resin to play with, consisting of Monohulls, Catamarans,
Cruisers and a Rhib. Each one would have won the actual event in the
past!
Following a day trip to Cowes, both Mike and myself,
secured legendary Powerboat photographers Beken of Cowes to use their
photographs for the game cards and each card will host a Photograph of a winner
and question to play!
We also met
with the The Hon Laura Aitken, who is Secretary of the British Powerboat Racing
Club and daughter of the late Sir Max Aitken of Beaverbrook Newspapers and
founder of the event and she very kindly gave her permission, to officially use
the OPCGB logo on the Playing Map!
The Game Play Map, has a mustering
area and three various sea states to contend with, depending on the weather
selected, as well as the threat of lost props, engine fire, cracked hulls, fog
and even sinking!
The 25 foot Puma Catamaran Unipart Lambs will
feature as a game piece, her driver Johnnie Yeoman and navigated by myself, won
the Round the Isle of Wight event in '88 in her and that course appears,
alongside the main CTC one, on the 1,000 x 500mm game map
The eight game pieces themselves, will be a micro
resin replica of each race boat in action on a seascape and a sample of each
winnner, can be seen in its plasticine form below. Three of the original, fifty
year old game pieces, have now been mounted on a seascape, within a clear
plastic cover and along with all the other 60's/70's originals, will be made
available for sale, with all proceeds given to the SBF Foundation
Charity!
Above, can be seen the Micro Original
previous winners, from L to R of Thunderbolt, A'speranziella, Surfury,
Ghostrider, Yellodrama III, Unipart Lambs, Kaama and Buzzi Buzzard.
Well, that's about it Ladies and
Gentleman, boys and girls and we would love to hear from you and if you would
like to tender an order or even part sponsor the games elements and feature
your company logo on the Map front, then that would be just great!
Thanks for your interest - Kim Leachman & Mike
Michael Mantle, with special thanks to Hon Laura Aitken, Ken Beken and Christian Toll! |
