Skimboarding (as it is known by our American cousins), dates back to the late 1920's when Laguna Beach lifeguards used to ride on four foot long wooden boards - similar to a surfboard without the skeg.
Although people still skimboard on wooden boards throughout the world today, the sport has evolved immensely.
Today Skimboarding is one of the most high-tech water sports anywhere, while continuing to be one of the smallest.
Unlike the circular Skidboards of the UK (which were designed for speed and distance), the American boards are Tear-Drop in shape and are designed to be to riden toward the waves enabling the rider to surf them back in! These boards are built using technology adapted from aerospace to attain maximum lightness, and buoyancy.
