One of the dangers at such speeds were unseen pebbles or stones - these could slow the board down enough to eject the rider and send him bouncing along the sand where he would suffer nasty sand burns to the body together with a severe bum bruising and hurt pride!

By 1971 the skidboarders had become a regular sight at low tide as they skidded along the Boscombe shoreline being watched and applauded by many holidaymakers especially when skidboarding beneath Boscombe pier.

One visitor yelled out 'Magnificent' as one skidboarder performed a pirouette (achieved by digging his hand into the sand as he sped along) - another even managed to stand on his head!

- The Magnificent Boscombe Skidboarders had arrived!
