During 1972, the MBS appeared on Magpie, a children's television programme rivalling Blue Peter. Sadly this was before the introduction of video, so no copies of the programme exist - but there was an audio recording made and this can still be heard.
1973 saw an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records. The Skidboarders were to manage to get '9 riders' onto a specially made 5-foot diameter board!
They appeared in the 1974 Edition with recognition of their speeds and distance but for some reason or other, the '9 riders on a board' did'nt.

Although over the years, some Skidboarders suffered a few cuts, grazes and bruising, there were never any really serious accidents involving themselves or the public, even so the Bournemouth Council in all their wisdom decided to enforce a by-law that banned the use of 'Circular Surfboards' - even though the sport of skidboarding took part on an area of beach called 'No Mans Land' and was really out of the jurisdiction of the implication of any such laws.

Laws are to be broken! Not to be outdone, the skidboarders built Octagonal boards nicknamed V8's - One in the eye for the council!
